Common Computer Terms

When we talk about MEMORY, we are talking about RAM, that is, RANDOM ACCESS MEMORY. This form of memory is temporary and only hold data while the computer is powered on. Examples of RAM, or MEMORY, are the letters you are writing in a word processing software, or the picture you are editing in Photoshop. When we talk about STORAGE, we are talking about hard drives, flash drives, SD cards, or writable CD/DVDs. This type of storage is PERMANENT. That is, when the computer or device is turned off, the data remains. Like the previous examples of letter writing or image editing, STORAGE is what retains the saved document or picture you were working with.
